Marble Making

At present, CEBU is at par with marble from Bulacan and Romblon in the overall comparison. (Romblon marble - reputed to be very hard and compact).

In 1994, a Japanese exporter who was in Cebu was especially fascinated with the local craftmanship on stone which led to the pursuit of such.

Sources of marble in CEBU are in the municipality of Carmen and the island of Mactan.

Fast becoming popular in the market, FeatherStone is an ultra-thin, ultra-light material made of marble, limestone or fossil stone. It is polished to a mirror-finish "mini" tile, inlaid and bonded to a "bonding" material made of a fiber mat and resin. The resin backing material allows for a certain degree of flexibility, which is vital to the installation process. Regular marble tiles break more readily than FeatherStone.

It is an excellent material, tolerance are within =-.0169 mm a most precise figure in the entire market. Tolerance refers to the degree of error in the measurement of the finished tiles in millimeter. It is how the tile is cut and how it fits to the entire whole.

FeatherStone, a creation of Phoenix Marble consolidated has its own processing plant in Naga, about 30 kilometers from Cebu City, complete with Carl Meyer and other imported equipment like block cutters, trimmers, calibrators, polishing machines, multiple blade, chamfering machine and buffers.

FeatherStone also produces tiles that both cater to export and local demands. Special attention is given to special projects for hotels.

From design, packaging, labeling, shipping & delivery.

The structural strength along with its incredible reduced weight, makes FeatherStone useable in yachts, ships, elevators, even airplanes. It can be produced in various dimensions, shapes, designs and depending on the stone variety and colors.

Feather Stone, a creation of Phoenix Marble Consolidated has won the unanimous nod of marble product connoisseurs at the Leipzig show in Germany in 1995.

To date, Japan, Canada, US, Taiwan and Australia are regular importers of Philippine Marble products.
