El Hijo
Disobediente
Cebu’s First Full-length Silent Movie
El Hijo Disobediente was produced by Max Borromeo, a prominent local physician, and “photographed” by Prudencio Iriarte. El Hijo Disobediente was a project of Cebuano theater artists such as composer-playwrights Celestino Rodriguez (as writer) and Florentino Borromeo (as director). The cast included such stage personalities as Buenaventura Rodriguez, Eulalia Hernandez, and Jose Rosales. Shot in Barili, Cebu by an all-Cebuano technical staff, the movie was riddled with technical defects that resulted in unintended comedy, such as a horse-drawn rig (tartanilla) running backwards and a woman climbing the stairs going down instead.
