City To
Offer Free Bus Rides
Cebu City
Mandaue City Lapulapu City
The Mandaue City Government
is working for the release of seven air-conditioned buses from the
Bureau of Customs in Cebu.
The City intends to use
these buses for public transport and will provide free rides to children
and senior citizens. But the City Government is yet to draft the
mechanics for the bus transport, including its fares and points of
destination. Also, the City will use these buses to provide mass
transport during strikes.
President Estrada has
approved the request of the Mandaue Mayor for acquisition of the seven
Daewoo air-conditioned tourist buses. Estrada directed the Custom
Commissioner to “implement immediately the request of Mayor Ouano.”
The buses were confiscated
by the Bureau of Customs last June 1999 and were forfeited with finality
in favor of the government. The buses, which are being held at the Port
of Cebu, are ready for release subject to acceptance of related costs by
the recipient agencies.
