DENR Cebu: Welcome Mining

DENR believes that world class mining operations would ease the country’s economic troubles.

Department of Environmental and Natural Resources knows that nine to 10 world-class mining operations in the country will be no need to send people abroad to work as domestic helpers.

Dollar earnings from such mining operations would be enough to help the country’s economy back on its feet.

Environmental protection advocates are opposing mining operations as these destroy the environment and displace communities.

But DENR explained though that there are measures to mitigate the adverse effects of mining. Like other forms of utilizing natural resources, mining can be managed and regulated. Also, the need for more community-based forest management agreement’s to help the government’s reforestation program.

The community should be given priority in the management, protection and restoration of timberland and other protected areas.
