Formerly named the Cebu Central Colleges, the University of Cebu achieved a university status in 1992. As an institution of higher learning, the university is committed to an authentic education that is founded on the principles of humanity, democracy, nationalism and academic excellence. In the pursuit of this mission, the university is further committed to providing leadership and service to the community it serves. The university also aims to provide each student a chance to enter college as embodied in its objective to provide the best education to the masses. Thus, it is one of the most thickly populated schools in Cebu.

Its has four campuses offering a number of courses. UC Main located in Sanciangko St., Cebu City offers courses in the graduate studies, arts and sciences, engineering and technology, paramedics, computer science, marine technology, commerce and business administration, Japanese studies as well as secondary courses. The METC Campus in Mambaling houses maritime facilities, the Allied Campus for engineering courses and the UC in Lapulapu and Mandaue (UCLM) which offers degree and associate courses. The school prides itself for having the best facilities for Marine Transportation and Computer courses.
