Everyone must have heard of the Republic of Cebu, famed for among other things, its historical black-and-white reproductions of Old Cebu photos. The latest addition to the city’s after dark offerings, the restaurant cum bar located at the Plaza Club of Cebu Plaza Hotel in Nivel Hills Lahug opened its door for people in all walks of life. The former Racquets Bar is now an intimate, elegant hole-in-the-wall looked upon by many as a groundbreaker for bringing elegance to the city’s nightscape.

Boasting of an intimate dining room, a lush and inviting patio, an extensive drinks list and four-star caliber cuisine, the Republic of Cebu has attracted an eclectic crowd of people wanting a more sophisticated nightlife experience than the city’s other clubs offer.

Most of the city’s nightlife appeals to a younger crowd, the Republic of Cebu seems to attract more sophisticated guests. This is definitely not the place for the one-drink crowd. The resto/pub’s décor – with its soft lightning and warm colors, menu and entertainment, appeals to guests who are a little mature.

At the Republic of Cebu, there’s abundant table-to-table conversation among the regulars. The piped-in music concocted by the deejay, keeps conversation flowing. It’s so lovely and romantic in ROC. When one is tired of staring at of her/his date, you can just gaze out at the twinkling city lights below.
