Micheal Almonte of Cebu Gems believes that all men who have done great things have been dreamers. Mike was once a dreamer, and because of his determination, he was able to make his dream into a reality. This energetic young man was born on Jan 4, 1974, stands 6’2" tall and weighs 185 lbs. He is the son of Mr. Roberto and Mrs. Juanita Almonte.

Being born in Ilo-ilo City, Mike spent his elementary years at Pavia Ungka Elementary School and at Pavia National High School during his secondary years. Mike went to Cebu and spent his college years at the University of San Jose Recolletos where he took up Hotel and Restaurant Management.

As a professional basketball player, Mike encourages all the youngsters who love basketball to go on and dream because nobody can stop a person from dreaming. Mike believes that a person succeeds not because he is destined to but because he is determined to.

A God fearing person, Mike’s concern is his family. He is a kind of person who wants to give his family a good life. Being able to play in the MBA enables Mike to prove to himself that he can always reach for his dreams for as long as he worked hard for it. And one thing that Mike is grateful for is being one of the Gems because in them he found a certain sense of belongingness. That is why Mike is very much dedicated to his work and to the team.

Mike is also very much careful in dealing with his fans, he doesn’t want to be snobbish so he treats them accordingly. As a professional basketball player and as a friend, Mike wants to tell all aspiring basketball fanatics that they should never lose hope in whatever endeavor they undertake and most of all to take time to develop their talents
