Edwin
Manabat
Cebu Gems
A
Philip Salvador look-a-like, Edwin "Ipe" Manabat of Cebu Gems
is one heck of a "hunk". This 6’3" and 200 lb. guy
whose now 24, is a graduate of Business Management at Far Eastern
University.
Playing the position of
forward, Edwin could rock the house because of his dynamite performance
as an action hero in the court. The youngest son of Mr. Feliciano and
Mrs. Mercilina Manabat, Edwin is thankful for his parents for nurturing
them.
A basketball varsity
player since elementary, Edwin had a great time spending his elementary
days at St. Scholastica Academy in Pampanga where he was chosen
"Milo’s Best Center". Spending high school at Ramon Pascual
Institute, Edwin received an award of being the "Athlete of the
Year" because of his undying talents. When he pursued to college,
many sports-scouts were interested of his playing skills. A varsity
player at Far Eastern University, Edwin also played at PBL. He first
joined at Carol Anns where he stayed for one year. Then went to extend
his service at Red bull for one conference and Chowking for another
conference. Playing at Cebu Gems is Edwin’s most difficult decision
because it means being away from his family but according to him, he had
no regret.
Edwin always finds time
to go to church before or after the game. He believes that whatever
decision he makes, God is there to support him. According to him, he
could already visualize that ten years from now "Edwin Manabat"
is already a millionaire if there is no problem.
Being a professional
basketball player, Edwin Manabat doesn’t want to be late during
practices because for him "its one way of disciplining
yourself". Every game, he gives all his support to the team by
means of defense and offense.
"Ipe" as mostly
call by his teammates is a very quiet person. But for Edwin, he may be
quiet but rest assured he’s one person you can count on.
