1.  Mario Almario (Sailing)

            Date of Birth: October 18, 1934
            Place of Birth: Cebu City

      International Games and Competition:

            The only Filipino skipper who won (w/ crew John-John Torres and Baltazar Asejo) a Gold Medal in an international competition.  He won this gold in the Southeast Asian Games in 1991.  He represented the Philippines in Yachting Competition in 3 Olympiads; Munich, Montreal and Barcelona.

 

2.   Ciriaco “Caroy” Cañete (Eskrima & Arnis)

            Date of Birth:  August 8, 1919
      Place of Birth:  San Fernando, Cebu
      Address:  C. Padilla, Cebu City

      Awards and Citation:  

a)      Awarded the Presidential Trophy for winning the 1st National Open Tournament (Masters Division) on Eskrima, March 24, 1979.

b)      Awarded the Presidential Trophy for winning the 1st National Invitational Arnis (Eskrima) tournament, August 19, 1979.

c)      Most Outstanding Athlete of 1979, awarded by the Cebu Lions Club, June 14, 1980.

 

3.   Jose “Joe” B. Peresas (Cycling)

            Date of Birth:  December 30, 1945
            Place of Birth: Cebu
            Address:  Tisa Hills, Cebu City
            Married to:  Glena Cabrera Regis with 3 daughters and 2 sons

      Awards and Citation:

a)      1956 – Tour of Luzon’s Youngest Rider Award

b)      1982 – 2nd All Cebuano Sports Award

b)      1966 – Tour of Luzon 4th Lap- 2nd Place

c)      1968 – Visayan Team Member Champion

d)      1968 – Visayan Cycling Circuit Individual Champion

e)      1968 – National Cycling Circuit Individual Champion 1st Runner – Gold Medal

f)        1969 – Asian Tour ng Filipinas 2nd Lap – 3rd Place

g)      1975 – Tour of Luzon’s 9th Lap – 3rd Place

h)      1976 – Tour of Luzon Team Member Champion

i)        1986 – U.S. Armed Forces Day Cycling Road Race

 

4.  Alejo de los Reyes, Sr.

      Sports Legend (Basketball)

            Date of Birth:  July 17, 1918
            Place of Birth:   Cebu City
            Address:  Poblacion Ward 3, Minglanilla, Cebu
            Married to:  Porferia Reroma de los Reyes with 7 children

      Known as the 1st Filipino “Hook Shot” artist in basketball.  A member of the famed Visayan Institute (now University of Visayas) team where he scored 16 point to defeat the Visiting Waseda University team of Japan in 1937.  He saw action for the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles in 1940-41, San Miguel Brewery in 1945-46 and with the Cebu Royal Plant during the 50’s.

 

5.   Ma. Theresa M. Samson (Swimming)

            Date of Birth:  October 15, 1961
            Place of Birth:  Cebu City
            Address:  Washington St. Poblacion, Talisay, Cebu

      International Games and Competition:

a)      Fifth Asian Age Group International, Swimming Meet, Manila, June 28-30, 1974

            4th place in 100 m Breaststroke

            4th place in 200 m Breaststroke

            4th place in 4x100 m Individual Medley

      b)      Philippines-Hongkong YMCA Age Group Swimming Meet, Hongkong, May 19-24, 1978

            1st place 100 m Breaststroke

            1st place 200 m Breaststroke

6.   Ma. Lourdes M. Samson (Swimming)
