Travel Tips
(When on a trip with children!)

  • Discuss safety issues with your children before you go. Lay down some travel rules. Explain why things may be different somewhere else and where to go or who to approach if they need to get help.

  • Review what to do if someone gets lost and how important it is no to stray.

  • Always have a plan and a good map. Be aware of your surroundings and be constantly alert to possible danger.

  • Kids need identification on them at all times in case you get separated. Travel pouches that are worn under clothes are good.

  • Carry an up-to-date and clear photograph of your children.

  • Role-play the safety game “what would you do if?” Children remember role-play with you or their siblings longer than they do lectures.

  • When you arrive at theme parks, museums and other crowded places, select a central meeting area in case you get separated. Tell your children to approach an employee to ask for help if they are lost. If they need to find you in a crowd, advise them to call you by your first name - there will be lots of other mommies.

  • Tell your children to keep their distance from dogs and other stray animals. Remember that not all dogs and animals are vaccinated.
