It Started With a Dream.

Cebu, 1991. A survey initiated by SPSFI revealed that Cebuanos had the talent and the potential for music but no consistent, organized effort was available for its development. Our youth had no past heritage to take pride in and to emulate - will their future be as culturally barren? Something had to be done. Now. Before the present becomes the past and dreams just remain dreams.

The Dream Takes Shape. . .

A ten-year development plan is drawn up with the goal: Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra by the year 2000. And where to start? With those who hold the key to the city's future - the youth.

. . . And Grows Roots.

Aside from lessons and rehearsals throughout the year, SPSFI schedules an intensive summer music camp during April and May. Visiting professors from Manila complement the Cebu-based faculty for musicianship discussions; solfege and theory lessons; and sectionals and orchestral rehearsals. For the scholars' total development in the arts, resource persons gave lecture-demos on architecture, sculpture, dance, drama, poetry, painting and handmade paper-making. The camps culminated in concerts given at public venues. For 1994, concerts were held in STC Auditorium and SM City Cebu Activity Center. For 1995, the CYSODP went on its first concert tour of Cebu: performances were held in Dalaguete town; Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan; and SM City Cebu in Cebu City.
