The Founder

Ingrid Sala was born to a piano-teacher mother in the Southern Philippine city of Cebu.

Ingrid had a little chance to become anything but a pianist. She attended Battig Piano Scool in Cebu City. She earned her master's degree in music from Sta. Isabel College in Manila and had her post-graduate training in Juillard School of Music in New York, USA.

Her first piano teacher was her mother Pilar B. Sala. Other mentors were Benjamin Tupas, Aida Gonzales, Reynaldo Reyes, Jose Contreras and Josef Raieff. She has received the TOWNs (The Outstanding Woen in the Nation's Service) award.

She has given numerous piano solo recitals and orchestral performances in the Philippines and abroad, which include being the first soloist of the nationally televised Concert at the Park series; performing the Philippine premiere of the "Yellow River Piano Concerto"; and participating in the Hiroshima International Music Festival. She has also adjudicated twice at the Takahiro Sonoda International Piano Concourse in Oita, Japan.

She dedicated the Sala Piano Museum in Cebu City in honor of Pilar Sala and organized the First "Homenaje A Pilar" Concert in 1991 and the First Annual PBS Music Festival in 1992. The museum holds a collection of more than 500 miniature pianos. She is also the Founding Chairman of the Piano Teachers' Guild of Cebu Foundation, Inc.

She is married to Jose, president of J Romero and Associates whom she cites for having been very supportive of her career. She has two daughters and a son: Crispy, Cathy, and Joey, all of whom are now successful in their respective field of endeavour.
