Modernizing Hospital IT Infrastructure for Enhanced Reliability & Scalability

Ng Khai Development Corp. partnered with a provincial hospital to transform their outdated IT infrastructure and deliver a significantly more reliable, scalable, and manageable system. The hospital faced significant challenges stemming from years of piecemeal server additions – resulting in a complex and vulnerable IT environment.

The Challenge: The hospital’s existing infrastructure relied on four “bare-metal” servers, each running its own crticial hospital application. This created a chaotic landscape with no centralized management, leading to:

  • Lack of Visibility: No single point of control for managing all applications.
  • Limited Scalability: Difficulty quickly adapting to growing compute needs.
  • Single Point of Failure: A critical vulnerability – if one server went down, the entire system was at risk.
  • No Lifecycle Management: Lack of tools for efficient monitoring and maintenance.

Using a virtualized hypervisor, the hospital IT staff can now easily manage all their VMs.

Ng Khai’s Solution: We implemented a comprehensive solution centered around Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI), completely virtualizing their workloads and providing a streamlined, unified management experience. This included:

  • HCI Deployment: Replacing the fragmented server environment with a powerful, integrated HCI platform.
  • Single Pane of Glass Management: Providing a user-friendly browser-based interface for complete control over the entire data center.
  • Virtualization & Backup: Enabling rapid creation and deployment of virtual machines, along with simplified backup and image management for all applications.
  • High Availability: Distributing workloads across multiple physical server nodes, ensuring continuous operation even if one node failed – eliminating the single point of failure.
  • Network & Power Modernization: Implementing redundant “top-of-rack” switches (TOR) for immediate failover and a robust uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect against outages.

The Results: Ng Khai’s solution delivered a dramatic improvement in the hospital’s IT operations. The new infrastructure provided:

  • Simplified Management: Centralized control and reduced IT complexity.
  • Enhanced Scalability: The ability to quickly adjust resources based on demand.
  • Increased Reliability: Elimination of the single point of failure and improved system uptime.
  • Proactive Maintenance: Streamlined monitoring and management capabilities.
